Chess club and chess school Ciudad Naranco has organized for 12th time their traditional Christmas tournament “Pablo Morán” in Oviedo, north of Spain. The competition has very special characteristics: blindfold chess, a friendly atmosphere and quite a strong field.
From December 28th 2010 to January 6th 2011 the 53rd edition of the international chess tournament Reggio Emilia takes place. Games starting daily from 14:30 CET and will be live with analysis!
In all 20,480 players got together to play chess against 1,024 masters to break Mexicos existing record of 13,446 players created in 2006.There was a thunderous roar of approval from the crowd when Guinness adjudicator Tarika Wala announced that Ahmedabad now holds the new record.
A few days ago Mamedyarov and Radjabov signed their contracts for the Candidates matches 2011 in Kazan. Now all players have confirmed their participation.
As expected, GM Magnus Carlsen has informed FIDE that he will not participate and was therefore replaced by GM Alexander Grischuk as per regulations.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov discussed with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov the questions in respect of the preparation and holding the Candidates Matches 2011. Mamedyarov and Radjabov have already signed contracts, the deadline for the other players is December 22.
With barely 6 days to go before the 1st round of the Festival is played, the organizers have already received a record number of 420 entries from 19 other countries besides host nation, Singapore. This is an all-time high for both entries and participating countries in the history of the annual year end Chess Festival.
“If any chess club or school or organization would like to have me play chess or give a talk to their kids/students/members, I will do it gladly, and will not charge a penny for the event. I will even bring Christmas presents for the simul players.”
15 GMs, 14 IMs, and 40 titled players is the total count for Bansko Open 2010. More than 170 players have confirmed their presence in what is projecting to be one of the strongest opens of the season.
GM Ivan Cheparinov (2668) is the top seeded player. The average ELO of the top 10 participants is 2588.
Increasingly, the status and profile of the National championship has taken a beating. Strangely, the All India Chess Federation (AICF), in spite of its good intentions, has lacked the flexibility to consider favourably the suggestions of the players.
