The lecturer was IA Mahdi Abdulrahim (UAE), Councilor of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission and FIDE Lecturer. The lectures were in Arabic language. 25 people from 10 Federations (KSA, SOM, EGY, SYR, MTN, TUR, SUD, AFG, INA and BAN) participated in the Seminar.
The March FIDE rating list is headed by the World Champion Viswanathan Anand. He is on top with 2817 points after gaining 7 points during the recent Tata Steel Chess. Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian are above 2800, gaining 1 and 3 points respectively. Judith Polagar is keeping her place as top woman, Fabiano Caruana and Yifan Hou are top junior and girl.
GM Henrik Danielsen, the author of The Insight chess show, has prepared over 25 lectures on the Accelerated Dragon. Parallel to the Accelerated Dragom GM Henrik Danielsen will begin series of lectures on other types of Sicilian defence, as well as the Rubinstein.
The Championship is qualification event for the next World Cup. According to the FIDE Regulations and the decision of the ECU Board, 23 players will qualify. General Prizes amount to 113 700 € and Special Prizes (performance minus rating) are worth 6 300 €.

The North Shore Chess Center will be hosting a very special guest, WGM Ruan Lufei for a lecture series (this series previously featured IM Florin Felecan.) For those of you not familiar with this wonderful young lady, Ruan Lufei was the runner up in the 2010 Women’s World Chess Championship. She is also working on her PHD in Accounting at Carnegie-Mellon University. On her way to the World Championship final, Ruan’s victims included defending champion GM Alexandra Kosteniuk. She was finally stopped by her countrywoman of GM Yifan Hou in the tiebreak leg of the championship match.
The President of Turkish Chess Federation, Mr.Ali Nihat Yazici, has published an open letter on 17 February 2011 and declared that TSF renews the bid for the 2011 European Individual Women Chess Championship in Gaziantep, with 10.000€ increasement in the prize fund. The event was supposed to be organised from 19 March till 1st April.
The second season of the TCEC super computer championship, including the mighty champion Houdini, Rybka, and Stockfish, has started. The lowest division, with engines ranked about 2500-2650 ELO, is currently ongoing. The Division F participants are Delphi 2.6b, Naraku 1.31, Gnu 5.07.170.5b, Philou 3.5 , Glass 1.6, and Pawny 0.2.
