Uzbek Grandmaster Marat Dzhumaev took advantage of such development, defeated GM Rinat Jumabayev of Kazakhstan, and jumped ahead to the shared first place, together with Anton Filippov and Tigran Petrosian. Petrosian was declared winner on superior tiebreak score.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is awarded with UNESCO medal “For the great personal contribution in cooperation between the Russian Federation and UNESCO”. The award to Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was presented by Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on the 23rd of March in Moscow.

For the pilot project to introduce Chess in Schools, the Thai authorities have selected 40 teachers from 20 schools all over the country. The ASEAN Chess Academy shall provide them the training, course manuals and chess equipment to enable these teachers to teach Chess in their respective schools as well as, in turn, train teachers from their respective neighbouring schools.

The FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess is happy to inform that for the 2nd year the WOM has received the Castle Camp Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a top Latin America girl chessplayer and it will include all training expenses covered plus lodging and accommodation during the training.

The 43rd International Ladie’s Grandmaster chess tournament is organized by the Belgrade Chess Association, from 6th to 14th March in Hotel Slavija. One of the longest running chess tournaments in the world, established back in 1963, is celebrating 8th March – International Women’s Day.
