The 3rd Annual Golden State Open will take place over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 13-16, 2012, at the Concord Hilton Hotel, Concord, California. The event has a $30,000 projected prize fund with $21,000 guaranteed.
The event has 5 sections: Open, Under 2100, Under 1800, Under 1500 and Under 1200. All sections are 7 round Swiss tournaments with all but the Open Section having 4-day, 3-day and 2-day schedules to play in. The Open Section has either 4-day and 3-day schedules.
Open Section prizes: $2000-1200-800-700-600-500, clear or tiebreak winner $100 bonus, top U2300/Unr $1000-500, top U2200/Unr $800-400. FIDE rated.
Golden State Open is starting only few days after the Northern California International concluded in Fremont.
