Bulgarian men and Ukrainian women took the gold in Opatija

WDCThe ICCD World Deaf Team Championship – Chess Olympiad 2014 took place from 18th to 28th June, 2014, at the Congress Center of the Grand Hotel Adriatic in the Croatian pearl Opatija.

The Men Section was won by the Bulgarian team with members Nikolay Ninov, IM Veselin Georgiev, FM Dimitar Serafimov and IM Petar Orev. Bulgaria collected 14 points, leaving the runner-up a full point behind.

The team of Poland (Krzysztof Checiak, Jerzy Strzelecki, Mateusz Lapaj, Marcin Chojnowski, Piotr Walczak and  Tomasz Miozga) remained second with 13 points.

Germany (IM Sergey Salov, WCM Annegret Mucha, Reza Mohammed Ghadimi, Dieter Jentsch and Michael Gruender) and Croatia (GM Zlatko Klaric, Goran Cechi, FM Bogdan Bozinovic, Toni Vujcic, Darko Svec, Emil Nikolic) split the third place on 12 points each, but Germany took the bronze on superior tie-break score.

Ukrainian women (WIM Tatiana Baklanova and Natalya Mironenko) proved to be the best with 13 points. Their major rivals, the team of Russia (WFM Natalia Kudriavtseva, WFM Yulia Turkeeva, WIM Olga Gerasimova and Ljubov Kireeva) got second with 12 points, while Kazakhstan (Nina Zhukovskaya, Almash Nuserova and Natalya Gorokhova) remained third.

Olaf Hoyer from Germany was the convincing winner of the Open Section. He finished with 7/9 points, a full point ahead of the nearest followers Mikhail Petrenko Mikhail (Russia), Gediminas  Petrauskas (Lithuania), Lir Muratov (Russia) and Roman Pogoskin (Russia).

The Israeli legend GM Yehuda Gruenfeld is the fastest player in the tournament. He lifted the trophy in the Blitz Open, collecting 8/10 points. IM Collutiis Duilio (Italy) finished second, while FM Zivic Dragan (Serbia) took the bronze.
