Daniel Fridman wins Vladimir Bagirov Memorial

Vladimir Bagirov

Riga Chess Federation, Alexei Shirov and Riga Armenian Society have organized Vladimir Bagirov Memorial, which took place on 20th September in Riga, Latvia.

The blitz tournament with 12 rounds and the time control 3+3 was held on the initiative of GM Daniel Fridman, who flew in from Germany on his own account in order to participate.

Alexei Shirov’s small contribution and symbolic entry fees formed the prize fund.

Daniel Fridman eventually took a clear first place with 11 points. A middle-tournament victory against his former trainer Shirov turned to be decisive as the Spanish top player remained a point behind. Full standings bellow.
