IM Oladapo Adu winner of FIDE Zonal 4.4 Championship

The FIDE Zonal 4.4 Championship has finished and we finally have a champion. IM Oladapo Adu of Nigeria has taken first place a score of 8/9 which included 7 wins and 2 draws.

The FM from Nigeria who took the lead with 4/4, Daniel Anwuli, had a terrible second half of the tournament only getting 2/5 and finished on 6/9. Sadly, he missed his chance however, once again Nigeria showed true sporting spirit in taking out the first seven places in the event followed but Ivory Coast and Ghana.

Full standings below.

Oladapo Adu

Our newest member of FIDE, Liberia, sent three players to represent the country in the zone: Haji Kiadii Charles, Jallah Jacob and Saah Thomas. Haji and Jallah scored 4.5/9 and Saah scored 3.5/9. This is a great achievement for a new Federation in a tough tournament. More chess to come from this country.

The women’s zonal was meant to be held at the same time but there is still no confirmed date on the event.
