The 4th Annual Golden State Open was held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 17-21, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 45 John Glenn Dr., Concord, California.
GM Chao Li continued his successful American tour with a comfortable victory in the Open Section. Li finished with 7.5/9, a whole point ahead of his nearest rival, GM Gregory Kaidanov, collecting $3100 for his efforts. Kaidanov’s second place finish netted him $1500.
Last weekend Li Chao won the Boston Chess Congress.
12 year old FM Jeffrey Xiong and FM Seth Homa both scored IM norms. Xiong had already secured his IM norm before his last round draw with Li while Homa managed to draw with IM Zhanibek Amanov in the final round to secure his.
