Markovic, Benderac win Central Serbia Chess Championships

The Individual Chess Championships of Central Serbia were held on 18-24 February 2013 in Pozarevac, Serbia.

There was an Open section and a Women’s section. Both groups were played over 9 rounds of Swiss pairings.

Grandmasters Miroslav Markovic and Miodrag R Savic shared the first place in the Open section with 7,0/9 points each and qualified for the Final of Serbian Championships which will be held in May.

Thanks to the better tie-break Markovic took the winner’s trophy and repeated the last year’s success. Markovic was Yugoslav champion in 1998 and formerly rated among the top 100 players in the world.

The Women’s section featured 10 players. WGM Ana Benderac 2226 emerged winner with 7,5 points. WIM Sandra Djukic 2131 is second with 7,0 points and also qualifies for the Final of Serbian Championships.
