The 4th FIDE Grand Prix has just recently finished in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia, and the 5th stage is set to take place this summer in Yerevan, Armenia. Meanwhile, after the cancellation of Karlovy Vary, it is still unclear where will the 6th tournament take place on December 2009. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is visiting Baku during the President Cup, and he had revealed to Teimour Tushiev of Extratime.az that Grozny and Oman are interested to organize the final Grand Prix tournament.
Extratime: Where will the last stage of the FIDE Grand Prix take place? There are rumors that Grozny, Chechnya is interested?
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: Yes, they are now preparing their proposal. Grozny wants to host the last stage of the FIDE Grand Prix, and as far as I understand they have serious ambitions with this project.
Extratime: Besides Grozny, who else is in the race for this event?
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: Oman still holds aspirations, and they should soon make an official offer. In addition to Grozny and Oman, there are some other options. All this should be clarified soon.
