Held on 11-19th July in Ikaria, with 175 participants and 37 titled players
The 32nd Ikaros Chess Festival concluded last Saturday with Grandmasters Robert Kempinski, Alexander Mista and Evgeny Vorobiov sharing the first place with 7.5 points each. Robert Kempinski was declared champion on best additional criteria. The organising committee was very satisfied with the Festival’s success. Here is their message:
“This year’s Ikaros Chess Festival managed to combine quality with quantity. With 37 titled players this tournament was the strongest one in the long history of the festival, while with 175 participants in total the event managed to attract not only the professional players who seek a good competition but also a large number of amateurs who combined a good tournament with relaxing and low cost vacations at the picturesque island of Ikaria.”
“The best reward for the organising committee is the promise made by most of the participants to return to Ikaria for one of the future events and bring their friends and family with them. After all, this is the main objective of Ikaros Chess Festival – make new friends of Ikaria – and Ikaros 2009 did very well in this respect.”
See you next year!
