12-year-old Salma Ahmed becomes the youngest Egyptian Women’s Chess Champion ever

The Egyptian Women’s National Chess Championship 2022 took place from 10-14 September at the 6th of October City Club. The event gathered 63 players who competed in 9 swiss rounds for the title of the National Champion.

12-year-old Salma Ahmed convincingly clinched the title as she scored unbeaten 7.5 points to be a full point ahead of the runner ups. Salma claimed her maiden Women’s National Champion title becoming the youngest-ever Egyptian Women’s Chess Champion. Earlier this year, Salma Ahmed scored perfect 9/9 at the African Youth Chess Championship 2022 becoming the African Champion of the GU12 section.

Six players tied for the second place with tiebreak criteria determining Hala Hassan silver medalist, Noha Mahmoud Youssef claimed bronze, Fatma Gamal Eldin finished fourth, Jomana Kandil came fifth, Rana Gaser was sixth and Janah Mohamed Ahmed finished in the seventh place on the final rankings.
