26th Elgoibar Masters

The 26th Masters Chess Championship Elgoibar took place from 16th-22nd December, 2017, in the Town hall of Elgoibar, Spain.

The Championship was organized by the Basque Chess Federation, in collaboration with the Basque Government, Excellent City Council of Elgoibar, F.E.D.A. and Sociedad Zubi Ondo.

The prestigious closed event featured 10 players, among whom are 4 Grand Masters and 5 International Masters. In the very strong competition the winner of the Championship became GM Henrik Teske from Germany who scored 6 points.

IM Milos Stankovic, from Serbia, ranked as 9th on the starting list, surprised with great result and silver medal reaching 5.5 points. Third place is for top seeded Indian Srinath Narayanan with 5 points thanks to the best tie-break score.

The total prize fund of the event was: 4.500 EUR, with 1.000 EUR reserved for the first place. Besides money prizes, top three players were rewarded with trophies and medals.
