42nd World Chess Open

The 42nd Annual World Chess Open will be held from June 30-July 6, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia.

The event has 10 sections: Open, Under 2400/Unrated, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400, Under 1200, Under 900/Unrated and Unrated/Provisional.

The Open Section will be a 9-round event held over 5-days (July 2-6). GM and IM norms are possible. Last year winner was GM Varuzhan Akobian.

The Under 2400/Unrated to Under 1600 sections are 9-round events with 7-day (June 30-July 6), 5-day (July 2-6), 4-day (July 3-6) or 3-day (July 4-6) schedules to play in.

The Under 1400 to Unrated/Provisional sections are 9-round events with 5-day (July 2-6), 4-day (July 3-6) or 3-day (July 4-6) schedules to play in.

The event has a $250,000 prize fund, based on 1180 paid entries, with $200,000 minimum guaranteed.

Open Section: $20000-10000-5000-2500-1300-1000-800-700-600-500, clear winner bonus $300, top FIDE U2500 $2000-1000. If tie for first, top 2 on tiebreak play speed game 11:30 pm 7/6 for title & bonus prize. FIDE rated.

Under 2400/Unrated Section: $12000-6000-3000-1500-1000-900-800-700-600-500, top U2300/Unr $2000-1000. FIDE rated.
Under 2200 Section: $12000-6000-3000-1500-1000-900-800-700-600-500, top U2100 $2000-1000.
Under 2000 Section: $12000-6000-3000-1500-1000-900-800-700-600-500, top U1900 $2000-1000.
Under 1800 Section: $12000-6000-3000-1500-1000-900-800-700-600-500, top U1700 $2000-1000.
Under 1600 Section: $12000-6000-3000-1500-1000-900-800-700-600-500, top 1500 $2000-1000.
Under 1400 Section: $8000-5000-3000-1500-1000-900-800-700-600-500, top U1300 $1600-800.
Under 1200 Section: $5000-2500-1200-1000-800-700-600-500-400-400, top U1000 $1200-600. U
Under 900/Unrated Section: $1200-800-600-400-300-300-200-200, trophies to first 10, top U700, U500, U300, Unrated. No unrated may win over $400.
Unrated/Provisional Section: Open to unrated or under 1500 with less than 26 games rated as of the 7/14 official list. $1200-800-600-400-300-300-200-200.
