50th Annual American Open

The 50th Annual American Open was held on 27-30th November at the Grand Ballroom, Doubletree Hotel Anaheim/Orange County, in Orange, California.

The 8-round Swiss event consisted of six sections: Open, U2200, U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400.

Open and U2200 are FIDE rated. The guaranteed prize fund was $25,000.

The main Open section had 46 participants. After dropping a draw in the first round GM Timur Gareev proceeded to convincingly win the event with 7,0/8 points, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind. Gareev earned $5000 for the effort.

1. GM Timur Gareyev 2709 – 7.0
2-4. IM Dionisio Aldama 2519, IM Jack Peters 2419 and Rodolfo Panopio 2274 – 6.0
5-7. Hamed Nouri 2377, WGM Tatev Abrahamyan 2458 and FM Vignesh Panchanatham 2362 – 5.5
8-12. FM Alexandre Kretchetov 2375, FM Julian Landaw 2440, FM Dayron Huertas 2418, Mike Zaloznyy 2245 and Albert Lu 2334 – 5.0 etc
