5th Capo d’Orso Tournament in Palau

Porto-MannuThe 5th edition of the Capo d’Orso open is taking place on 1st-6th June at the Residence Hotel Porto Mannu in Palau.

It is a 9 round Swiss open with a classical FIDE time control. The first prizes are distributed as follows: 1st – 1.000 €; 2nd – 800 €; 3rd – 650 €; 4th – 500 €, etc.

The tournament, organized for the first time in 2007, has already become Sardinia’s most prominent and one of Italy’s most renowned chess events. As for last year, we have invited a number of Italian and international players who will make it possible to acquire FIDE GM and IM norms (depending on the opposition met).

The tournament will be played in a recently opened air-conditioned playing hall, with wooden chess sets and boards and DGT clocks for all players. Morning lectures of the duration of approximately one hour will be held by leading IM/GM trainers (among them Jacob Aagaard, Mihail Marin, Jonathan Rowson and Fabiano Caruana). And all around, the enchanting setting of Porto Mannu and its “all-chess-and-sea-resort”.

After six rounds, Italian Axel Rombaldoni and Romanian Mihail Marin are leading with 5/6 points. No less than 16 players are sharing second place a whole point behind the leaders.
