74-year-old Bernard Lesbros wins the National Chess Championship of Senegal

The final stage of the National Chess Championship of Senegal 2022 took place from 11-13 & 19-20 November in Dakar. The event was played in 9 round-robin rounds, with 10 players who qualified for the finals through the preliminary stages.

The 74-year-old Bernard Lesbros won the Championship scoring 7.5/9 points. Lesbros had a slow start and scored only 1.5 points out of three played games, but won six consecutive matches to claim the title of the National Champion. “It is very difficult to win a national title at my age, but I prepared very well for the event. I even hired a personal coach to achieve this goal,” said Bernard Lesbros with a broad smile in a short interview after the final round. Wara Diop won silver medal with 7 points and Ba El Hadji Saidou Nourou won bronze with 6.5 points. Scroll down for final rankings
