78th Brazil Chess Championship

The 78th Brazil Chess Championship is taking place from 10th to 20th December, 2011, at the Hotel Dann Inn Cambuí in Campinas. 12 players compete in the round robin tournament.

Seven-times national champion GM Giovanni Vescovi is defending the last year’s title and four-times champion of Brazil Rafael Leitao is the second-seeded player.

The legendary Henrique Mecking will be pursuing his third national title after taking the trophy back in 1965 and 1967.

GM Alexandr Fier (champion in 2005) returns from the successful European tour where he won the Delemont Open in Switzerland.
