Abdumalik and Kostenko are champions of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan Chess Championships 2016

The 2016 Kazakhstan Chess Championships for men and women were held from 3-13th May at the Astana International Hotel in Almaty.

The women’s championship was 10-player round robin with the average elo 2108. Top-seeded WGM Zhansaya Abdumalik took the title with 7,0/9 points, half a point ahead of WGM Yelena Ankudinova.

The men’s section was a 12-player round robin with the average elo 2449. It was a closely contested tournament with three players sharing the first place with 7,5/11 points each – GMs Petr Kostenko, Rinat Jumabayev and Murtas Kazhgaleyev. Kostenko was declared champion on superior tie-break score.
