19-year-old Alireza Firouzja is having his own show in Saint Louis Chess Club. After winning Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz, Firouzja clinched the title in the 2022 Sinquefield Cup and emerged as the Winner of the 2022 Grand Chess Tour. He now leads the Saint Louis 9LX Chess tournament tying for the top with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.
Alireza analyzed his Day 2 games in the live studio and spoke about his preparation for Chess 960 as he wasn’t joining the starting position discussions with other players: “I don’t think it’s very important (the preparation). I think it’s very complicated. Even if they sit for 40 minutes they cannot find the best moves. The chess that we’re playing we are analyzing for 1000 years and it’s not even clear what to do with first move. I think they are doing it just for fun, but in general I like to concentrate before the game. (…) And it is a bit strange for me because we are competitors, and they are talking together. It’s a bit weird for me“. See the complete interview below
