After announcing the warming up of “the 2022 Disrespect Championship”, Fabiano Caruana defeated Hans Niemann in the fourth round of the US Chess Championship yesterday (Replay the game here). Joining the live studio after the game, Fabiano said that he hoped to give an interesting interview, but after more than five hours of play, he didn’t have enough energy for that.
As Fabi pointed out, the US Chess Championship might become recognized as the 2022 Disrespect Championship after Christopher Yoo’s and Wesley So’s interviews became viral. After defeating Christopher Yoo with black pieces, Hans Niemann gave a short post-game interview sending a message “Chess speaks for itself” and left the US Championship studio not willing to analyze his game. Christopher Yoo a day after shared his thoughts on Niemann’s interview “I felt disrespected on every level by Hans Niemann“, and Wesley So agreed with him stating that Niemann disrespected everybody in the chess world.
However, world number 7 Anish Giri indicated yesterday that Fabiano Caruana is the one disrespecting the chess world: “Fabi disrespecting the chess world by making Hans look like a noob every time“. See the tweet below
