Armenian Chess Championships 2012

The 72nd Armenian Highest League and the 67th Armenian Women’s Championship were held concurrently from 11th to 22nd January in Yerevan. Both events were 11-round closed tournaments.

GM Tigran L Petrosian took a clear first place in the Men’s Championship by collecting 7.0 points. Petrosian will be invited to play for the Armenian national team in the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul. The average elo of the participants was 2565.

WGM Maria Kursova, who only last year transferred to the Armenian Chess Federation after marrying GM Arman Pashikian, convincingly took the women’s title by collecting 9.0 points. Her main opponent was WIM Anna Hairapetian who remained half a point behind. WGM Evgeniya Doluhanova, another newcomer to Armenia, took the bronze medal.
