Aryan Tari: I was afraid Magnus won’t be my friend after I played this line

Aryan Tari defeated Magnus Carlsen in the 7th round of Norway Chess. Tari chose to play a solid line as White in the game with classical time control, then winning an Armageddon to score a victory against the reigning World Chess Champion.

In a post-match interview, Tari said he was afraid Magnus won’t be his friend anymore: “To be honest, I was afraid he (Magnus Carlsen) won’t be my friend after I played this line. But chess is a sport, you need to think about yourself. It’s a bit drawish (line), but I was a bit tired. I’ve had so exhausting games in the last three days and I decided to play solid.”. Aryan added it feels very good to defeat the World Champion. See the whole interview below.
