Boris Chatalbashev is the winner of Basel chess open 2018

BorisChess Festival Basel, 2nd to 7th January 2018

The traditional Chess Festival Basel took place again at the beginning of this year in the beautiful multi-purpose hall of the Landgasthof Riehen. Switzerland’s third-largest chess festival after Biel and Zurich is very popular in the region and they were 143 chess players from 16 nations
The 9 rounds in the championship were dominated by the Elo-best players from the first round. There were no major surprises and the three strongest GM shared the podium with 7 points each. Due to the better rating the following final ranking was printed: 1. GM Boris Chatalbashev (BUL), 2. GM Andreas Heimann (GER), 3. GM Vadim Milov. With 4th final rank the German FM Marcel Harff achieved IM norm with 6/9 points.
The amateur tournament was limited to 7 rounds. The top three amateur players were three Germans who shared the podium: 1. Dirk Seidel Pkt. 6,5, Thomas Müller Pkt. 6, Frank Schambach Pkt. 5,5.
