Champion meets Champion: Jakob Schubert chats with Magnus Carlsen at the European Club Cup

The 37th European Chess Club Cup and the 26th European Women’s Chess Club Cup are simultaneously taking place from 2nd – 10th October in Mayrhofen, Austria with participation of 87 teams and world-top chess players. More than 500 players from 45 countries defend the colors of their clubs, including the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen who will compete for the Offerspill Chess Club. The event attracted many chess enthusiasts and officials visiting the playing venue. One of the visitors was the four-time climbing world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Jakob Schubert who is also an avid chess fan. He paid a visit to the playing venue of the European Club Cup, kibitzing the games of the world-class grandmasters. Schubert and Magnus Carlsen met after the third round and chatted about climbing and chess.
