Change for the Chess Olympiad and FIDE Congress dates (Updated)

FIDE informs that the dates for the 2016 World Chess Olympiad are changed to 1-14 September 2016.

The event is scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan with the astounding budget of 13,3 million EUR!

The 2016 FIDE Congress will take its place, accordingly, from 4-14 September 2016.

Update: FIDE Statement on Baku Olympiad change of dates

FIDE has been aware for some time that the Baku Organisers have wished to change the dates of the Olympiad because of school holidays and also availability of hotels. This has only just been confirmed by Organisers. FIDE approached Khanty-Mansiysk, who were able to change the dates of the World Youth. It is unfortunate the new dates clash a little with announced tournaments, but hope that they will understand and be able to adjust their dates accordingly.

Change for 2016 World Youth Championship dates

The 2016 World Youth Championship has changed its dates to 20 September – 4 October 2016.
