Chicago Open 2016

The 25th Annual Chicago Open will be held over Memorial Day weekend from May 26-30, 2016, at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel, 601 North Milwaukee Ave, Wheeling, Illinois.

The event has 8 sections: Open, Under 2300, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000.

The Open Section is a 5-day tournament (May 26-30) with FIDE norms possible. The Under 2300 to Under 1300 Sections have either a 4-day schedule (May 27-30), 3-day schedule (May 28-30) or 2-day schedule (May 29-30) to participate in while the Under 1000 Section has either a 3-day schedule (May 28-30) or 2-day schedule (May 29-30) to participate in.

The Open Section is a 9-round Swiss, while the other sections are 7-round Swiss. Time rate is 40/2, SD/30, d10.

Last year winner was Jeffery Xiong.

The event has a $100,000 prize fund unconditionally guaranteed.

Open Section: $10000-5000-2500-1300-1000-800-600-500-400-400, clear or tiebreak winner bonus $300, top FIDE Under 2400/Unr $2000-1000. FIDE rated, GM and IM norms possible.
Under 2300 Section: $5000-2500-1200-800-600-500-400-300-300-300.
Under 2100 Section: $5000-2500-1200-800-600-500-400-300-300-300.
Under 1900 Section: $5000-2500-1200-800-600-500-400-300-300-300.
Under 1700 Section: $5000-2500-1200-800-600-500-400-300-300-300.
Under 1500 Section: $4000-2000-1000-700-500-400-300-300-300-300.
Under 1300 Section: $4000-2000-1000-700-500-400-300-300-300-300.
Under 1000 Section: $1000-500-300-200-200-150-150-100-100, trophies to first 10, top Under 800, Under 600, Under 400, Unrated.
