Chigorin Memorial 2012 LIVE!

Hotel “Park” in St. Petersburg will once again be a host of a strong open tournament, and once again the event will be honoring a chess legend. The Chigorin Memorial, organized by the St Petersburg Chess Federation,  will take place October 27 – November 4 as part of the Russian Cup competitions. It will be s Swiss tournament with time control 90 minutes for 40 moves, 30 seconds increment per move from move 1.

A total of 105 titiled players, 63 of them Grandmasters, and 4 over 2700 ELO will participate in the event. Top seeded is the Latvian GM Alexei Shirov, who will have as strongest opponent the winner of the previous SPB major event, the Botvinnik Memorial winner GM Alexander Areshchenko. The other two members of the 2700 club participating are the bronze medalist from ETCC 2011 GM Zoltan Almasi and the gold medalist from the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul GM Vladimir Akopian.
