Commonwealth Chess Championship 2016

Commonwealth flagThe Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on behalf of FIDE and the Commonwealth Chess Association cordially invites all eligible players to participate in the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2016 to be held in Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka from 30th July to 7th August.

The tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 10 rounds. Time control is 90 Minutes + 30 sec per move from move number 1.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in Open, Women, Senior (Above 60 years), Under-20 (Boys and Girls), Under-18 (Boys and Girls), Under-16 (Boys and Girls), Under-14 (Boys and Girls), Under-12 (Boys and Girls), Under-10 (Boys and Girls), Under-8 (Boys and Girls) categories. The medal winners will be referred to as Commonwealth Medalists.

Last year Open champion was GM Abhijeet Gupta.

Total Cash Prizes: Rs. 2,500,000/- (approx USD 18000)

Each Commonwealth country is eligible to field one man, one woman, One Senior (Above-60), one Junior Girl (Under-20), one Junior Boy (Under-20) player and one boy and girl each in under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 as official entrants. Their boarding and lodging will be provided free in five star hotel.

Other entrants will have to pay for the boarding and lodging at $100 (Single), $70 (Double sharing) & $60 (Triple Sharing) per day.

Official entries 75 USD or equivalent in LKR. All Additional Players above 1600 Rating 150 USD or equivalent in LKR. All Additional players less than 1600 and unrated 250 USD or equivalent in LKR.
For GMs and IMs having a rating above 2450 – Free. WGMs and WIMs having a rating above 2250 – Free.
The last date of entry is 29th June, 2016. Late fee of 50 USD applies until 15th July, 2016.
