FIDE Grand Prix moves from Portugal to Switzerland

FIDE logoFollowing the weeks of speculation, the Portugal Chess Federation announced on its website that the 3rd stage of the FIDE Grand Prix will not be held in Lisbon as planned.

“Unfortunately, for the reasons that did not depend on the Portuguese Chess Federation and the Portuguese Government, the organization of the event will change the location, with the approval of FIDE.”

AGON failed to secure the sponsorship and FIDE is looking into alternatives and will clarify officially the situation about the Grand Prix in the following few days.

FIDE is expected to maintain the calendar and hold the event as planned from 17th April to 1st May. An agreement with the host from Zug, Switzerland should be announced soon.
