FIDE World Senior Team Chess Championships start in Acqui Terme

The FIDE World Senior Team Chess Championships 2022 start today in Acqui Terme. The event is played in two age categories: 50+ and 65+, taking place from 20-29 June.

Both Championships will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 40 moves in 90 minutes, followed by 30 minutes to finish the game, with 30 second increments from move 1. A total of 43 teams coming from around 20 countries take part in the competition, with teams England 1 (2563 average rating), USA (2532 average rating) and Georgia Winery Khareba (Georgia Winery Khareba average rating) headlining the 50+ section, and Israel 1 (2382 average rating), England 1 (2352 average rating) and Germany 1 (2321 average rating) are top seeds of the 65+ section.

Among the players representing their federations are: GM Michael Adams (England 1, 2690, 50+ section), GM Nigel Short (England 1, 2617, 50+ section), GM Giorgi Giorgadze (Georgia Winery Khareba, 2584, 50+ section), GM Igor Novikov (USA, 2558, 50+ section), GM Gregory Kaidanov (USA, 2557, 50+ section), GM John Nunn (England 1, 2568, 65+ section), GM Raine Knaak (Germany 1, 2479, 65+section), GM Anatoly Vaisser (France, 2477, 65+ section), GM Yehuda Gruenfeld (Israel 1, 2423, 65+ section).
