France announces teams for the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

The French Chess Federation announced the National Open and Women’s teams for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022.

French Team (Open section):

  1. GM Jules Moussard (2668)
  2. GM Maxime Lagarde (2628)
  3. GM Laurent Fressinet (2624)
  4. GM Matthieu Cornette (2563)
  5. GM Marc’Andria Maurizzi (2490)

GM Sebastian Maze will captain the team which will compete with an average rating of 2594.6. The French Open squad will for sure miss Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Alireza Fiourzja, whose absence from the Olympiad will be notable. The team will be freshened with the youngest French Grandmaster of all time Marc’Andria Maurizzi.

French Team (Women’s Section):

  1. GM Marie Sebag (2472)
  2. IM Sophie Milliet (2392)
  3. IM Pauline Guichard (2377)
  4. IM Anastasia Savina (2358)
  5. WIM Andreea Navrotescu (2350)

The Women’s French Team with an average rating of 2389,8 will be captained and coached by GM Yannick Gozzoli.

The participation record-breaking Olympiad in Chennai, which starts in less than 50 days, will feature the first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay. 187 countries enrolled for the event, and multiple teams have already announced their composition.
