Gabor Papp wins 2016 World Chess Open

The 44th Annual World Open was held from June 30-July 4, 2016 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

The event had 9 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400, Under 1200, Under 900 and Unrated.

The main Open section had 220 participants. After 9 rounds of Swiss seven players shared the first place with 7,0 points each.

The two players with best tie-break scores, GM Gabor Papp and GM Viktor Bologan, proceeded to Armageddon playoff to decide who will take the bonus award. Papp won in great style and was declared overall winner.
