Gabriel Sargissian wins Chicago Open on tie-break

The 23rd Annual Chicago Open was held on 22-26th May at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel, 601 North Milwaukee Ave, Wheeling, Illinois.

The event had 9 sections: Open, Under 2300/Unrated, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300, Under 1000/Unrated and Unrated/Provisional.

The strongest Open Section with 94 participants was completed over 9 rounds of Swiss system in 5-days.

GM Gabriel Sargissian from Armenia and IM Priyadharshan Kannappan from India shared the first place with 7,0/9 points each. Sargissian had a better tie-break to take the winner’s trophy and top prize 7700 USD. Kannappan earned 7500 USD.

Top U2500 finisher was FM Michael Lee who earned 2000 USD.
