Legendary grandmaster and former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov competes in the 2022 Champions Showdown Chess 9LX tournament in Saint Louis Chess Club. He suffered three losses during the Day 1 and bottoms the crosstable after three played rounds. After watching Day 1 games, Jamaican-American grandmaster and famous commentator Maurice Ashley tweeted that Kasparov would definitely be a top 20 player if he only focused on chess: “Watching Garry Kasparov play at the Saint Louis Chess Club, it’s clear that he would definitely be a top 20 player if he only focused on chess. Even out of form, he’s still a gangsta!“. Kasparov answered him in a style: “Very kind, Maurice. Unfortunately, chess is only a small part of my life these days and, with so many elite players here this week, Saint Louis is no gangsta’s paradise!“.
