Gata Kamsky with top prize in Chesapeake Open

Gata KamskyThe 7th Annual Chesapeake Open took place from 9-11th January at the Rockville Hilton in Rockville, Maryland, USA.

The tournament format was 5-round Swiss and there were seven sections: Championship (FIDE rated), U2200, U2000, U1800, U1600, U1300 and U1000.

The organizers popularize an innovative prizing system where prizes are based on score and not on standings. More information on the tournament website.

The Championship section had 35 participants. GM Gata Kamsky took a clear first place with 4,5/5 points to win $800 (based on score) + $300 (clear first bonus).

Second place was shared by IM Levan Bregadze and Srdjan Darmanovic, Montenegro’s ambassador to the United States.
