Georgios Makropoulos returning to chess politics as a candidate for FIDE Vice President

The 2018 Candidate for FIDE President Georgios Makropoulos returns to chess politics, this time as a candidate for the FIDE Vice President.

The Greek Chess Federation Board met on Saturday, 4th of June, and among other decisions related to the work of the Federation, announced the support of Makroupoulos’s candidacy for the position of FIDE Vice President.

The Board Supports the candidacy of Mr. G. Makropoulos for the position of Vice President of FIDE, in the upcoming elections of the World Federation, August 2022. This is one of the four positions of Vice Presidents who are elected independently by ballot.

Georgios Makropoulos served as a Vice President of FIDE since 1986. He was elected Deputy President and has been responsible for actively running the organization since 1996. After he lost the FIDE elections in 2018 against Dvorkovich, Makropoulos temporarily stepped out of chess politics, again coming back on the international politics chess scene as a FIDE Vice President candidate.

The FIDE Congress will be held in Chennai, India between 31 July 2022 and 09 August 2022 as part of the Chess Olympiad 2022 (see all Olympiad news here). Part of it is the FIDE General Assembly, where on the agenda are the FIDE electionsFind all FIDE elections 2022 news here.
