The 44th Chess Olympiad starts on July 28 in Chennai, India. A good three months in advance, the German Chess Federation disclosed the team composition for the Open section:
- Vincent Keymer (2667)
- Matthias Bluebaum (2663)
- Rasmus Svane (2651)
- Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu (2638)
- Dmitrij Kollars (2635)
The German team will be captained by Jan Gustafsson who used to coach the Netherlands and was part of Magnus Carlsen’s second team in several matches for the World Championship.
The first four players were lined up according to FIDE rating lists published on May 1st: Young star Vincent Keymer (2667), European champion Matthias Bluebaum (2663), Rasmus Svane (2651) and Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu (2638). Gustafsson nominated Dmitrij Kollars (2635) as the fifth player. With a difference of only 32 Elo points between the first and the fifth player and an Elo average of 2651 points, Germany will have a particularly strong and balanced team.
