GM Ben Finegold wins the 16th Annual Mid-America Open

The 16th Annual Mid-America Open was held on March 16-18, 2012, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel St. Louis-Clayton, 7750 Carondelet Ave., St. Louis, Missouri.

The Open Section ended in a five-way tie with GM Ben Finegold, IM Ronald Burnett, FM Doug Eckert, Kevin Wasiluk and Sean Vibbert all finishing with 4 points. However, the Grandmaster took the title and first place bonus on tie-breaks from the rest of the group.

There were 7 sections: Open, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400, Under 1200 and Under 900. All sections were 5 round Swiss tournaments with 3-day and 2-day schedules to play in.

The event had a $18,000 projected prize fund with $12,000 guaranteed.
