The International Chess Festival “Terre degli Elimi” 2016 concluded with a closing ceremony at the conference hall of Palazzo Sales in Erice, Italy.
The growth in participation in this traditional festival is expressed by 135 participants with a number of foreign players from 10 different nations.
The main Open A concluded with three players sharing the first place with 6,5/9 points each: GM Felix Levin (Germany), GM Jan Werle and 16-years old FM Tycho Dijkhuis (both Netherlands). Felix Levin is declared champion on best tie-break.
Italians also performed well, with FM Artem Gilevych and 14-year old FM Francesco Sonis sharing the 4th place half a point behind the winners. Gilevych completed his second IM-norm.
WFM Maria Kovanova from Kazakhstan was top placed woman, and the U20 “Francesco Monaco” award was won by the Dutch FM Mischa Senders. The special prize “Enza e Nino” in memory of the CM Giacomo Bertino parents awarded for the best difference W-We, goes to the Sicilian 16-years old Francesco La Sala.

Antonino Lo Piccolo from Alcamo won the Open B with 7/9 points, ahead of the young Gianluca Savalla from Marsala and the Russian 12-years old Niyaz Garifzyanov.
In the Open C dominated the Russian Alexey Shadrin with 6/7 points, ahead of the 12-years old compatriot Vitaliia Cherepanova and Luca Polito from Palermo.
