GM Maurice Ashley is a Jamaican-American chess player, author, and commentator. He traveled to FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 as a chess fan and joined the Saint Louis Chess Club broadcast with GM Alejandro Ramirez and GM Yasser Seirawan to share his experience from the trip. “Madrid is fantastic! The energy here is absolutely extraordinary and it’s just an incredible buzz in the city” said Ashley. Maurice also revealed that before the start of the Candidates he considered Ding Liren as the best candidate for the Candidates podium, but after the first round, he changed his mind to Fabiano Caruana who seems very confident on the way to again become Carlsen’s Challenger in the World Chess Championship Match.
