GM Melikset Khachiyan wins the tournament in Agoura Hills

The 20th Annual Western Class Championships were held from March 8-10, 2013, at the Sheraton Agoura Hills Hotel, 30100 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, California.

GM Melikset Khachiyan, GM Gregory Kaidanov and IM Andranik Matikozyan all finished atop of the standings of the Master Section with 4,0/5.

Each player collected $1022.67 for their weekend’s efforts with Khachiyan winning an additional $88 for having the best tie-breaks amongst them.

FIDE Masters Harutyun Akopyan, John D Bryant and Michael Casella shared the 4th place with 3,5/5 points each. Last year winner GM Enrico Sevillano completed the event with 3,0/5 points.

A total of 210 players competed in 7 sections: Master, Expert, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E.

The Western Class Championships had a $20,000 prize fund based on 230 paid entries with $16,000 guaranteed.
