Grandmasters Meier, Jimenez and Boros share first in Thanksgiving Open in Saint Louis

The 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Open took place on 23-25th November at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.

The 6-round Swiss event was held in three sections – Open, U1800 and U1400, and is rated with FIDE.

The Open section had 58 participants. Grandmasters Georg Meier, Fidel Corrales Jimenez, and Denes Boros, all members of the Webster University – SPICE chess team, shared the first place with 5,0/6 points each.

GM Wesley So, former World U18 champion IM Steven Zierk and IM Priyadharshan Kannappan are behind the winners with 4,5 points each.

The U1800 section had 22 players. Ian Gilchrist and Randy Giminez shared the first place with 5/6 points each.

The U1400 section had 25 participants. Dennis Sprowls and Robert M White are the winners with 5/6 points.

The prize fund was 10,500 USD, with 1600 USD for the winner of the Open section and 1000 USD for the winners of each U1800 and U1400 section. There were also special elo prizes.

Immediately following the Thanksgiving Open, the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis is hosting the 2012 CCSCSL Invitational (26-30th November), a GM and IM norm event.
