The US Chess Championship 2022 commenced yesterday in Saint Louis and takes place from 5-20 October at the Saint Louis Chess Club. Fourteen of the country’s strongest chess players battle for the national title and $60,000 in a classical round-robin event with Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian and Wesley So headlining the field which includes Hans Niemann as the 8th seed.
Hans Niemann is in the limelight for the last couple of weeks and had a perfect start at the US Championship as he defeated Christopher Yoo in the first round. Niemann joined the live studio after the game to send a short but strong message: “Chess speaks for itself”. Hans will take white pieces in the second round against 21-year-old Jeffery Xiong.
