Happy birthday to Magnus Carlsen!

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen celebrates his 32nd birthday today! We wish him loads of beautiful chess games and many more Champions titles!

Magnus Carlsen is a reigning five-time World Chess Champion who holds also three World Rapid Champion titles and five World Blitz Champion titles. Carlsen has held the 1st position on the FIDE rating list since July 2022 and holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak at the elite level in classical chess. Carlsen’s peak rating of 2882 is the highest in history and revealed that one of his goals is to reach 2900. Magnus Carlsen became the World Chess Champion after defeating Viswanathan Anand in the World Championship Match 2013. He defended the title against Anand in 2014, Sergey Karjakin in 2016, Fabiano Caruana in 2018 and Ian Nepomniachtchi in 2021. However, Carlsen announced this year that he will not defend the World Champion title in the 2023 World Championship.

Magnus Carlsen was in the limelight of the unprecedented cheating drama which included 19-year-old Hans Niemann. After Hans Niemann defeated the World Chess Champion in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Carlsen decided to withdraw from the tournament without detailed explanations. Three weeks later, Magnus published the official statement publicly accusing Niemann of cheating more and more recently than he admitted in the interview given during the Sinquefield Cup. On October 20, Hans Niemann filed a massive lawsuit seeking 400 million USD in damages from Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen (Magnus Carlsen), Play Magnus as Play Magnus Group, Chess.com LLC, Daniel Rensch (Danny Rensch), and Hikaru Nakamura. Carlsen continued his anti-cheating campaign commenting that cheaters should not be taken lightly either online or OTB adding later that he thinks it’s a good thing that the attitude about cheating is changing.
