Has Grok followed TCEC before Kaggle Game Arena AI chess matches?

The Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC) is the premier computer chess tournament that has been running since 2010, often considered the unofficial World Computer Chess Championship due to its strong lineup of chess engines and high-end hardware. Organized by Chessdom.com, TCEC aims to showcase high-quality, long time control chess matches between top chess engines, broadcast live 24/7 on its official website, Twitch, and platforms like Lichess.

Currently, TCEC is in its season 28 and you can follow the Premier Division live here

Today, another type of AI challenge starts. Kaggle Game Arena is starting with an AI exhibition chess tournament. A unique and powerful approach to understanding AI capabilities, Kaggle Game Arena, in partnership with Google DeepMind, announced a new platform where leading AI models will compete head-to-head in chess and other games.

One of the participants in the Kaggle Game Arena AI chess tournament is Grok – the AI model used by Twitter/X, owned by Elon Musk. Elon Musk himself has often talked about chess – he commented the accusations against Niemann, talked about computer chess, joked with chess as a video game, suggested a new chess variant, and even lashed out at Kasparov.

Whether Grok has been trained with TCEC engines is still a secret, but this is what Elon Musk published the day of the Kaggle Game Arena chess competition.
