HDBank Cup Open Chess Tournament – Round 3

2nd HDBank CupThe Vietnam Chess Federation is holding the 2nd HDBank Cup Open Chess tournament 2012 on 1-8th March in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

After three rounds of play Filipino Grandmasters Mark Paragua and John Paul Gomez, and former Asian champion GM Ni Hua are leading the charge with three points each.

Russian IM Viacheslav Diu held the top seeded GM Le Quang Liem to a draw with black pieces.

The 4th round brings the Filipino and Chinese derby on the first and second board respectively. On the 3rd board Le Quang Liem will take on the unrated compatriot Vo Thanh Ninh.

The 9-round Swiss event is featuring 93 players from 14 federations, among them being 15 Grandmasters.

Grandmasters Yu Yangyi and Wen Yang shared the first place in the 1st HDBank Cup Open 2011
