High interest for amateurs sections of Tata Steel Chess Tournament

Amateurs’ interest in participating in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2018 is very high. Two of the three amateur groups are already complete: the Weekend-three-round events and the Nine-round events. A waiting list has been set up for these groups.

There is still room for amateurs to participate in the Weekday-three-round events. Entries can be submitted through www.tatasteelchess.com.

Entries will be dealt with in the order of receipt. The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2018 will take place in Wijk aan Zee from 12 – 28 January 2018.

Tournament director Jeroen van den Berg:
“I know that many amateur chess players eagerly look forward to the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, but this year’s overwhelming response has caught me by surprise. Within 12 hours of the opening of the entry more than 1,000 amateurs had registered. We have recently passed the 1,700 mark and have had to instigate waiting lists for the Weekend-three-round events and the Nine-round events. I therefore recommend that chess players interested in participating in the Weekday-three-round events register as quickly as possible.”
