IM Escobar Forero Alder wins the 3rd Copa Latinoamericana de Ajedrez

The 3rd Copa Latinoamericana de Ajedrez was held from 4th to 9th October at the Hotel San Fernando in the city of Cali, Colombia.

There were two playing groups: the Elite Group and the Kirsan Cup for U-14 players. The playing format was 9-round Swiss.

The Elite Group had 97 participants. Four players, IM Escobar Forero Alder, GM Zapata Alonso (both Colombia), GM Almeida Quintana Omar and GM Ortiz Suarez Isan Reynaldo (both Cuba), shared the first place with 7,0 points each. Escobar Forero is declared champion on superior tie-break result.

The top prizes in the elite group were $ 3000, $ 2500, $ 2000, $ 1500 and $ 1000.

The Kirsan Cup had 48 participants. Gonzalez Andres Felipe (COL 1946) is the convincing winner with 8,5/9 points, leaving the nearest follower point and a half behind.
