One of the largest open events of this summer takes place in Barcelona. It is the XXV Open Internacional de Sants – Ciutat de Barcelona and features 625 players. The tournament is not only massive, but also boasts strong participation, with the A group having 16 GMs and 140 titled players, coming from 52 countries!
Round 1 was as exciting as expected and while most top boards finished as expected, surprises were not missing. Local players Marti Gonzalez Alonso (2053) and Bernat Gutierrez Martinez (2049) managed to hold to a draw GM Tamas Banusz and GM Luis Ernesto Quesada Perez. See all games here
